Global AI Index

Comparably to Europe and the Americas, How Are Africa and Asia, Shining and Why?

ABSTRACT

This chapter compares AI performance in Africa and Asia, highlighting Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia, and Morocco as Africa’s top performers. The findings indicate that Africa ranks lowest in AI implementation, innovation, and investment due to a lack of skilled practitioners and essential infrastructure. Limited AI research and government support further impede progress. However, the existing regulatory frameworks and operating environment in Africa present an opportunity for the implementation of AI solutions. Investment in AI infrastructure, education, and government commitment to AI development can enhance AI implementation capabilities and innovation in Africa. In Asia, China, Singapore, South Korea, Israel, Japan, and India lead the AI race. Asia excels in AI implementation but lags in talent development and government support. In contrast, North America and Europe dominate the AI development race.
